DB and the Catastrophe

DB and the Catastrophe is a young, new band out of Fort Collins, Colorado, that combines solid doses of hard-hitting rhythm, melodic lyrics, soaring guitar work, and smart use of horns in a uniquely new punk and ska concoction that is sure to please. Accentuated by driving drumbeats, the band is barreling down the dirt-road trail first blazed by pioneers the Clash and the Ramones, and more recently by groups like Green Day, the Foo Fighters, Social Distortion, and Rancid. The planet may be in a recession right now, but you wouldn’t know it from how hard this band works and the energy they bring to the table. The band got its start in January, 2009 and got busy in a hurry. Formed by high-school friends, DB and the Catastrophe proceeded to play gigs throughout much of the year. The band entered the studio in October, 2009 and recorded the single “Assault.” The song enjoyed substantial airplay and landed the group on Top Twelve “Hometown for the Holidays” list of Denver radio station KTCL 93.3. Popularity sparked by the Top Twelve showing led to a slew of gigs throughout late 2009 and 2010. In April of 2010, the group entered the studio again and recorded an E.P., Don't Look Back, which contained three new songs. This was preceded by the release of a full-length album, “Fade-Out,” only available at the band’s shows. “Don't Look Back” continues a dizzying workload for DB and the Catastrophe. From June through September of 2010, the band has played a series of dates in and around the greater Denver area, including an opening event for Green Day. The latter part of 2010 promises more gigs and broader distribution of the band’s EP. They keep pace with a busy schedule, but then, this is a band that understands the hard work required to succeed in the music business. When not recording, or touring and playing live, which they do much of the time, the band members are constantly reaching out to their fans through email, doing music and media public relations, and working to book gigs. The band prizes the value of the Internet and the constant contact they strive for with their fans. Band members are Dylan Busby on vocals and guitar, Tiffany Cronick on back-up vocals and trumpet, Ricky Brown on back-up vocals and bass guitar, and Ben Duncan on drums. While a young, new band, these guys have known each other for a long-time, and their music packs a punch. With themes ranging from disenchantment, societal pressure, matters of love, soul-searching, and trying to belong, the band takes fans on a rollicking melodic ride through territory still in need of mapping. The results are solid, thoroughly enjoyable music. “There’s no better time than right now,” sings Dylan Busby on the spitfire-staccato, ska-horn laden “Waiting,” an anthem to attaining longed-for but totally unexpected love. Indeed, there is no better than time than right now for DB and the Catastrophe. For more information about DB and the Catastrophe, dates, and records, please go to http://www.dbandthecatastrophe.com.
